User Guide · The Notebook

Reminders and thoughts from the past.

Choose a time to write, let an old entry come back to you as time passes, and decide if you want to be notified when a past thought becomes available.

Come back without pushing yourself too hard

Two ways to come back to your memory.

The Journal offers several different ways to help you get back into writing or return to a previous entry.

"Writing Time" is a daily reminder that you set yourself.

On the contrary, those earlier thoughts stem from revisiting an old entry in your notebook.

Three separate settings
1
Time of Writing A daily reminder at the time you choose.
2
Automatic lifts Allow a previous entry to reappear in the Journal.
3
Record past thoughts Adds a notification when a past thought is actually retrieved.

"Writing Time" is a gentle reminder that invites you to take a moment each day to write.

This reminder works regardless of whether there is a previous entry in your Notebook.

Automatic lifts

An Ancient Thought may return to your Notebook.

When auto-reposting is enabled, The Journal may highlight an older entry under «A Thought from the Past.».

This feature lets you find something that you chose to keep once enough time has passed.

Automatic lifts

The display does not imply a notification.

Enabling automatic retrieval allows a previous thought to appear in the Notebook.

This activation alone does not trigger a notification on your device.

Notification of a Thought from the Past

The «Notify about previous thoughts» option appears when automatic recalls are enabled.

A Different Way of Operating

It's not A guaranteed daily notification.

Unlike "Writing Time," the notification of a previous thought depends on the presence of an old entry retrieved by the Notebook.

01 A thought is retrieved.

The Journal displays an old entry under «A Thought from Before.».

02 A reminder can be scheduled.

If the associated notifications are enabled, a one-time reminder can be created.

03 Without a new thought, there is no new reminder.

The absence of a notification does not, therefore, necessarily mean that a setting is not working.

i
Awareness depends on a thought that is truly present.

Unless a new thought is recorded in the Notebook, no new reminders of previous thoughts are added.

Since the notification

Go directly back to the relevant entry.

Tap the reminder of a previous thought to open the corresponding entry.

If the Carnet's protection is enabled, the app will first ask you to log in.

Back to the context

The reminder leads to to the thought in question.

The notification isn't just a general invitation to open the app.

When it relates to a previous thought, it allows you to return to the entry saved by the Notebook.

Cancel a reminder

Turn off what you no longer wish to receive.

You can turn off the various reminders in the Address Book preferences.

1
Open «Me,» then «Preferences»

Find the setting corresponding to the reminder you want to turn off.

2
Turn off the option

Turn off "Writing Time" or notifications for past thoughts.

Multiple devices

Check for reminders on each device.

Reminders are set on the device you are using.

If you use Le Carnet on multiple devices, check the settings separately on each one.

Logging out deletes the reminders scheduled for the session on that device.

To be verified

Each device has its own notifications

A setting configured on an iPhone should not automatically be assumed to be the same on another device.

Be sure to check the iOS permissions and Address Book settings on each device you use.

A reminder does not appear

Check the settings in that order.

1
Check your preferences

Make sure the desired option is enabled and saved in Le Carnet.

3
Check the Focus modes

These settings may hide or delay certain notifications.

4

5
Take a test

For “Writing Time,” choose a time a few minutes in the future, then record again.

!
For a past thought, be sure to update your Notebook as well.

Unless the app has retrieved a thought, no associated reminder can be scheduled.
